Snowshoeing

We treated ourselves to some snowshoes and tried them out for the first time today. They’re a great way to keep fit and be ready for biking once the snow melts away. We’re planning a trip later this week hiking up Col du Cou (some of you may remember riding up that, but we’ll be taking the long way!) and skiing back down, a great way to avoid the crowded pistes!

first snowboarding of the winter

Well, now we’re back in Morzine which is pretty chilly after Morocco. Still, we thought we’d take advantage of the snow and get up the hill for a few hours on Sunday, and lots of fun it was too. We’re just waiting to get hold of our new skis now so we can try them out. Snow’s falling right down into town now, so no biking for a while :(

Powder snow

We’ve been a bit quiet on here for the past few days, but with good reason….we got lots of snow! The past two days have been amazing, great deep powder snow, and seeing as it hasn’t been the best winter for snowfall we thought we’d take advantage of it. So we’ve had two full on powder days playing around and riding all the best spots with our mates. We’re back in the office now catching up with everything, and maybe feeling just a little sore and stiff too. More snow’s forecast for the rest of the week, so looking forward to some more great powder days…..

Cheddar cheese delivery

Guy’s mate Joe arrived last night and very kindly brought with him two huge lumps of cheddar cheese. Now I’m quite a big fan of cheddar so was very excited to see this and to have cheese on toast for lunch :) The selection of cheese here is amazing, and I love french cheese, but do miss cheddar. Guy was pretty chuffed with his two jars of peanut butter and bottle of Cachaca, in fact he’s out buying limes right now to make Caipirinhas tonight. We’ll definitely be inviting Joe back again!

My new pink bike

I’m now officially very excited! You see, in December I sold my old NRS frame and decided to buy a cheap hardtail frame to build up with all the parts from that. Have been having a look around and found a DMR Switchback for sale second hand that seemed pretty good. What made it even better was that the man selling it happened to work for Windwave (www.windwave.co.uk) and be willing to indulge my request for a pink powder coat - which I realise is not a normal service when buying a second hand frame. I’ve just heard back that it looks like the coaters have done a good job, he can finish it off on Monday and get it sent out! So a big thank you to Tom at Windwave who I can heartily recommend for a great service. Oh and I should say that they don’t normally powder coat frames, but can do forks, so if you want your forks serviced and powder coated pink at the same time, you know where to go….

saddle sore, or is it gym sore?

Why are the saddles on gym bikes so uncomfortable? Are they really bad or is it partly in your head as you’d rather be outside than in the gym?

Just some random wonderings after my trip to the gym today. You see, the problem with all the snow is it makes biking a little difficult. So I’ve joined the gym to make sure I keep fit. I’ve been a few times (trying, and so far managing, to go 3 times a week) and each time I go on the bike I’m really sore. I’m on for around an hour and having to get off ‘cos it hurts, rather than my legs being tired. This is particularly annoying after having discovered my perfect saddle this summer. Oh well, just have to wait till it thaws enough to get back on the bike. In the meantime, it’s less bad each time I go so by summertime it’ll probably be fine!
Rant over.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Well, finally the snow is here and our winter playground is great fun. We spent most of today up the hill playing around in the powder. We came back and got on with a little work, but I’m now tired and ready for bed. Good night.

It’s snowing!

Finally, we have more snow! To celebrate we went out for dinner at one of our favourite restaurants, La Flamme. A lovely meal was followed by a snow fight on the way home. I lost :(

The office might be closed tomorrow so we can go up the mountain.

Merry Christmas!

And a happy new year…

Not much snow here at the moment, but rather than feel glum about it, I embraced the lack of the white stuff and took my bike out for a ride on Christmas Eve. The trails are bone dry, and frozen. Which makes for some very speedy riding… I also discovered that ice isn’t so grippy and had an off. Three stitches later, and all was back in place (ouch!). I caught it on our new helmet camera for all to see as well - I’ll post that up online once I’ve finished making my way through all our Christmas food!

more snow

More snow is forecast for the resort opening weekend.

It’s not much but it’s better than nothing.
