Ragley Blue Pig update

Now I've had the Blue Pig for a month now, I though it would be a good time to post an update..

Impressions are very good to say the least. The bike has been able to handle most things I can throw at it. It's been on epic two day rides in to the back of beyond. It's been on quick blasts around here (Morzine) when I've not had the time to ride all day. It's most at home on the Techy stuff – switchbacks are a personal favourite.

It has the ability to inspire confidence and know that the front will roll over stuff if you let it – not get stuck behind an obstacle and throw you off – that'd be the slack head angle then..

Climbing wise – I've not had to do too much of that yet – what with uplifts all around – but the climbs that I have done it's been me rather than the bike that's faltered. It goes up a lot more confidently than most hard tails I've ridden. The front end does wander a bit on the real steep stuff – But then I do have some 160mm forks on there – right on the limit for this frame.

And most importantly – it's never felt out of it's depth around here.

Current spec in order of importance is:
Fox 36 Van R
Dual Ply Minions
Short stem
Big wide bar
Some round(ish) wheels
Some brakes that stop
Some gears that go

I'd like to get a hammershmidttdddddttt on there – but it needs some ISCG mounts and some more money in my bank account before that happens! Failing that a blackspire stinger to keep the chain in check.

Last ride was very local – you can see the photos here: http://www.ridemorzine.org/2009/08/the-best-trails-in-the-valley/

Nomad frame for sale – 1600 euros.

Just testing the water… I’m thinking of selling the Nomad frame…
Anyone want one? 1600 euros for a 3 month old frame worth nearly 2,000 GBP…

It’s a size Medium.

Shock is currently being serviced as well (DHX 5.0 Coil)

All the other bits in the photo are NOT for sale.. just the frame and shock. Stickers are there to protect the frame rather than hide anything!

Anyone interested? Please email or call me – guy@flowmtb.com +33(0)684875681

My Blue Pig

So I’ve had the Ragley Blue Pig for a couple of weeks now. Time to show you a pic and what spec I’ve got running!

Sram X9 gear bits

Juicy 7 Rear brake (185mm)

Formula ‘The One’ front brake (200mm)

Fox 36VanR 160mm forks

Truvativ BB and Crankset

WTB post and saddle

Pro2 Hubs – with a 321 Rim on the rear (built by yours truly on Monday – two days of hard riding and it’s still true!) and a DT5.1 on the front (stolen, along with the front brake and forks, from my Nomad)

And the most important bits (if you get this wrong, Brant will come and hit you with sticks, apparently)

50mm Raceface stem

745mm Sunline V1 Bars

I’ve had the bike for a few weeks – firstly with Rockshox pikes on there but swapped them out for the 36′s to see how it handles a bigger fork. The verdict? very well indeed. No where near as divey as they were on my Prince Albert – but they do raise the BB just a smidgen…

I took it on our 2 day refuge trip this week, with some properly slow technical riding and it excelled itself. I was also suprised at how not beaten up I was – must be those twangy seat stays!

Refuge ride report coming soon. It was a belter!

Posterous | Re: singletrack week off to a good start – all smiles and no injuries :) Got the new Ragley blue pig out today – pretty good so far :)

Tried out the Stab Supreme (Matt's nemesis) and Chipp's Blood today – love the blood, but the stab is a bit of a tank!!

Mega randoms

All taken with the camera phone – hence the crappy quality!

Highlights include the blury bar shot where were roped into a VERY odd thumb waving sing along. Proof that I took the prince albert up to the Glacier for a practice run of the Mega Course on a hard tail (arm pump anyone?).  Then the final setup for my Mega race bike – the Nomad plus joplin uppy downy seatpin, larson TT rear tyre for speed if not grip. And Sara rocking the dh youth look on the final day – tee shirt, full face, no bag etc – perhaps a little un-practical!

And then there's the hotel that thinks it's christmas all year long!

Until next year….

Cider and pancakes

There's nothing like the crepes at the Attray Crepery to finish a good day in the saddle! And the Cider there is great – makes for an interesting final descent back to Morzine!
