There are special prices for manicures and pedicures, plus goodies at the end of the week for all dirtgirls. They can’t cure your scrapes and bruises, but can make sure you go home with a rocking set of nails!

Les Gets lifts re-open for Mountain Biking

The lifts opened for the weekend at Les Gets, so, obviously, we were out checking out the changes and riding the old favourites.

The DH tracks were in great shape considering the rain we’ve had over the last few days. I hung out at Chavannes and Nauchets a while before heading off for an XC loop. Pictures here.

The Chavannes lift has a new carrying system that can take two bikes at once. You simply walks up, slot your front wheel into the yellow bike carrier and get on the next chair. Up top the lifties have got your bike down for you and off you go. This should really reduce the queues. Check out the photos to see it.

Video all ‘serious’ bikers should see…..

Very funny video just forwarded to us by Stewart Monk of Reel Fun Media.

Dirt 100

Dirt magazine decided to celebrate making it to 100 issues by picking their 100 favourite things in mountain biking. No mean feat.

Unsurprisingly the Portes du Soleil made it in there (Pages 102-103), described as ‘one of the worldwide strongholds of summer mountain biking‘. With a particular mention for Morzine as as the best resort to stay in.

Dorenaz biking in May

Seems that we’ve been getting a bit of the summer sunshine recently here in the alps – so thought it best to make the most of it with a trip down the road to Dorenaz – near Martingy in Switzerland.

tiny lift – public transport, swiss style!

That’s the “bus stop” up top.. not a bad view.

Obligatory photographers bike shot :)

The way down mostly looked like this. Was hard to concentrate on the exposed singletrack with that view!

There’s some really great rinding there, a top day out if ever you’re in the area! It’s only an hour and a half from Morzine as well – and as the lift runs throughout the year it’s a great off season option when the ski resorts are shut / covered in snow!

Les Gets MTB news

Les Gets are planning lots of new improvements to the mountain biking for summer 2010. This should make the biking in the area even better than before.

The summer season will start on the 29th May (weekends only till the 12th June) and end on the 12th September 2010.

CHANGES IN THE LES GETS BIKE PARK:

This summer the Chavannes Express chairlift will be equipped with new frames enabling it to take 2 bikes per seat, an improvement which will significantly reduce waiting times for mountain bikers.

A new section has been added to the green run “Les Ecureuils” (on Chavannes), so that it is now accessible from two chair lifts: the Chavannes Express which leaves from the centre of Les Gets, and the Nauchets Express close to the Jump park. This new section also bypasses the 4×4 track above la Mouille ronde.

A new blue run has been built below the Nauchets Express, next to the Jump park. This will give riders of a medium standard access to an area that until now has only been accessible to more experienced riders.

A new red run has been built on the Nauchets section, next to the “North Shore Zone” (Lac du Plan du Rocher).

The Jump park has been enlarged at Nauchets with a “new expert run”

Reorganisation and enlargement of the Mini Jump park near the “Lac des Ecoles”(new obstacles)

Development of the “North Shore Zone” from “Lac du Plan du Rocher” with new obstacles.

The start of the “Dans le Gaz” piste has been changed so that walkers and mountainbikers no longer leave from the same departure point.

flowmtb on freecaster

Well, our logo on Fionn Griffiths on freecaster :)

Check out the video of 4X at the Maribor World Cup last weekend. The women’s race with Fionn starts at around 01.37.00 – check out the flowmtb logo on her sleeve – and of course some great riding from these top female racers! There’s also an interview with Fionn just after the race.

Settle down with a cuppa or a beer and watch it here.

Fionn and her team will be staying in the flowmtb Morzine chalet in June and July in between races, as well as heading over to Alpe d’Huez with us for the Megavalanche.
