It seems all the top female riders are training in Morzine and staying/eating at flowmtb at the moment. Fionn, Jo and Neven are here staying with flowmtb in our Morzine chalet for a few weeks. Melissa, the current 4x world champ came out for the weekend and joined the famous flowmtb sunday night BBQ. Emmeline turned up in town today and joined us for thai curry and banana tatin tonight.
The Morzine and Portes du Soleil downhills are the perfect training ground for these girls. And top flowmtb chef Jess is making sure they’re well fed. Secretly we’re trying to feed them up too much in the vain hope we can keep up

Here at flowmtb we have the Norco World Cup team stayin. Fionn Griffiths, Joanna Peterson and Neven Steinmetz are on a two week training an rest stay at flowmtb HQ in Morzine.
On friday Jo and Fionn ran a dirtgirls special skills day. I was lucky enough to join them along with Jess, Susan, Shona, Sam and Dinny for some skills training in Les Gets. We improved our cornering, drops, and after a midday storm (we sheltered in the fantastic snack bar O’Kariboo) our mud riding!

The French have taken back the crown of the most entries this year with 36% of the riders. Brits are 2% lower down with 34%..

Just had a call from Yohann from BikeSolutions… He’s after some more volunteers for some trail building tomorrow. He’ll be up there all Morning (from 8am) - to give people jobs and things to do. After that he’s happy for people to work on the track whenever they like over the next few days / weeks. I know it’s last minute, but if you can spare half an hour tomorrow morning to see what needs doing, then you’ll be more than welcome to do some digging later on when you have more time.
The digger has been in there for a few days now, so the base track is pretty much done - it now needs some hand finishing and compacting.
If you want to help out, head up the Pleney lift as early as you can tomorrow morning and walk / ride down to the start of the track.
Bring a shovel / rake / whatever tool you have.

Taking advantage of the sunshine and the opening of the Champery cable car on Saturday, an intrepid troop of 5 set out from Morzine to conquer the Col de Coux. Nearly 1000m of vertical to scale from Morzine town centre to the top - it’s no small feat.
Starting from Morzine town centre, we headed up the road towards the Valley de la Manche. The road is a good warm up for the steepness to come! And it is steep!
An hour and a half later we were up at the top admiring Morzine down below, and the Dents du Midi looming over Champery. The classic ridge ride down towards Balme then left to Champery. Awesome stuff. Unfortunately on the road run into Champery I felt a knocking in the back wheel - looking down it seemed like a regular buckle. However once at the lift station, to my horror, I found something rather more serious - a big crack in the hub.. ouch.
I like to think zip ties made the difference between me being able to roll back into Morzine, rather than walk for hours.
So then I took the lift up from Champery and eased over to the base of the Col du Coux climb - I thought I’d walk it rather than risk ripping the rear hub apart (any excuse not to climb up there!) - Then a limpy ride back down to Morzine… but I made it!
Bit of sunburn on the forehead but otherwise unscathed.
I have since re-built my wheel with a spare hub and some expert wheel building knowledge from Sian
It survived a few hours being nailed down various Pleney DH tracks in good condition - even with the odd dodgy sideways landing! Might tighten it up a bit tomorrow..

The Bike Park team have been working hard to make sure everything’s ready for the opening of the Chatel lifts at the end of the month.
The green graded ‘Panaramic’ has been completely remodeled to make it more playful and fun to ride - this should be great for beginners and more experienced riders. Lots of last year’s flowmtb guests loved it so we\’re keen to see what changes they’ve made. A new blue has been created, ‘fluid’, a flowing track with lots of (optional) jumps. There’s also a new black, ‘coup de fouet’ - whiplash!
And lastly Steve Romaniuk has been working with them to reshape the Mountain Style Face. This is 300m long, 100m wide with 160m of vertical drop, full of crazy jumps for the Mountain Style contest on the 3 and 4 July.
It’s been a busy few weeks for the Chatel Mountain Bike Park team and will continue to be so as they put the finishing touches on their new trails, and get the old ones back into shape for the new mountain bike season.
