Barcelona to Tarifa

We’re all the way down at Tarifa – the southern-most point of mainland Europe.

I’ve uploaded some photos to the gallery here and here

Since my last post we’ve been wandering around the streets of Barcelona, Sitches and Tarregona. We then drove through the night to the south coast – Cabo de Gata – the only real ‘desert’ of Europe. The problem was that the rain followed us from Morzine down there – it was raining in Europe’s only desert!

So we then hot footed it over to Orgiva in the Alpujurras to the south of the Sierra Nevada mountains.

We stayed with David and Adrienne from Bike Andalucia for a couple of days – David showed us some great riding, and Adrienne showed us some great tapas bars…

After that we spent the day in Granada – more sightseeing – the Alhambra fortress is pretty impressive. A sign of things to come in Morocco.

After a days hike up a 2000m peak, we wanted to get the bikes back out. I’d seen footage and magazine coverage of a dried up riverbed just outside La Zubia – which happened to be where we were staying (handy eh).

So we had to go and ride this riverbed. It was full of rocks, berms, step ups, doubles and drops. I’d love to stay and ride it a few times with the aid of an uplift van – but alas we had to ride up and down which meant only two runs… ah well.

So now we’re in Tarifa, the wind-surf and kite surf capital of Spain. hopefully the wind will be nice to us so we can have a go later this afternoon.. fingers crossed!

Next up – Morocco!

The trip sounds amazing – have a grea time in morocco but watch out for the lamb kebabs in fez (or pack some imodium). we’re going to go and check out some riding for you here in vanuatu in a couple of weeks – not quite sure what it will be like as most of the bikes i’ve seen look like 3 gear shoppers circa 1980. bon voyage
