Last Friday I took a rather stupid tumble crossing over a little wooden bridge in Chatel bike park. The bridge was only about a foot off the ground and about two foot wide, it was wet and it did not have chicken wire on it. I really shouldn’t have fallen off but I did. The reason I fell off was because I used my front brake on some wet wood. A tiny error really, one of those things that you learn right after you take your stabilisers off your first bike.
I’ll spare the details of exactly what happened but the result was that I fractured a little bone in my left thumb, just under the first knuckle. The result of this tiny little fracture is that my hand is now in a cast. The doctor says it is in a cast so I do not get tempted to move my thumb and ride my bike (he obviously knows me very well).
So here I am, sat on my computer instead of riding my bike. This is what I have learned:
- North shore should always have chicken wire on it.
- Never use your front brake on wet wood (I already knew this but I think its being somewhat reinforced!)
- A bit of plaster on your hand can cost more than you expect.
- The best way to mop a floor is by doing the floor once with a wet mop, then doing it again with a drier mop.
Expect a few more posts from me now I am not riding as often as I’d like!
Greg
PS. High five.
