getmountainbiking

I’ve been getting some fitness training tips recently from Helen who runs www.getmountainbiking.co.uk in Northamptonshire. While I can’t personally vouch for her bike skills coaching, if it’s anything like as good as her fitness coaching then you’ll get a lot out of it.

I’ve not only started running (something I’ve never quite ‘got’ before) but even went out in the rain this morning and enjoyed it. Thanks Helen for all the help and advice!

Something for the girls

I’ve just been checking out Minx’s collection, and it’s looking good! http://www.minx-girl.com Have just put in an order to get me through the summer and the Sombrio Lotus shorts were top of the list. My La Nina’s did so well last year (in fact so well I don’t really have an excuse to get more..but a girl needs to have the latest) that I had to get these ultra cool looking shorts. These combined with the Sugoi liners (also from Minx) are my all time favourite (bottom half) bike wear. It was a hard choice as there’s some great stuff by Harlot and Sheebeest, but in the end Sombrio won out. The minx tech tee is looking pretty good too this year, although it’s got some pretty good competition from Harlot and Swobo, not to mention some pretty Terry tanks and tees.
I’m warning you all it’s a dangerous site to visit, but one that can’t be avoided. Nowhere else have I seen such a good and varied collection of girlie bike wear…Oh and while you’re on it check out the ‘Roadtrip’ non-bike wear from which I had to add in a couple of particularly good looking tees. The look has now been completed with the Oury grips in minx pink – to be added to my pretty pink bike.
Oh I can’t wait for this summer. I’m gonna be looking good :)

growing things

I’ve never had a garden before so was quite excited about the small patch of earth I can use to plant things. I’ve put in some herbs and then sown seeds for two types of lettuce and some carrots. Hoping it’ll all go well, and if it works some of you lucky people coming out this summer might get home grown veggies!

running

Went for a run yesterday afternoon – the first time in about 8 years. Just thought it’d be a good way to help get fit for summer. I never really enjoyed running and remembered why – it hurt :( Still, for the first time ever I completed the run I set out to do and want to do it again and get faster. Just next time, not in the afternoon sun!

commuting to work

Got up early yesterday – had to catch a train to work! Although in this case, work involved searching out new trails to ride for our ‘swiss commuting’ day trips. Not a bad life. We headed down to Montreux to ride the train all the way up to the Rochers de Naye. It was a perfect blue sky day – the only trouble was that the train broke down just as we got there… bummer. We didn’t fancy waiting around for them to fix it, so headed up the Rhone valley to our other commuter town of Bex. The trains there were running just fine. We managed a few runs, finding some great riding on the way. I took a helmet cam of one of the runs which shall be up online tomorrow. It’s two minutes long – cut down from the hour long descent! Thats a lot of descending…!  We’ll be heading back to Montreux later in the week once they’ve fixed it!

Special offers in June

We’ve just lowered our prices for the first two weeks of the season.

From the 9th-16th June we’re running a special skills week with the renowned Jules Fincham delivering Trail Cycle Leader training. Not only can you still snap up a space, but you can get it for just €599 instead of €725!

Come out for the 16-23rd June and pay just €475 instead of €575. All usual services are included.

New baggage weight limits

When we flew back to Morzine earlier this week the guy’s at the oversize bag check-in warned us that the maximum weight limits are soon to be lowered. At the moment each piece of luggage can weigh up to 32kgs, and these guys told us that next month it’s down to 23kgs. Our bike bags each weighed 24 and 25kgs.
Now, I can’t find anything about this on the Easyjet website (it still says up to 32kgs) but have found that it’s BAA (who run the airports) who are imposing this for health and safety reasons. And quite a few other carriers have updated their sites with dates for the change – Ryanair say from July and BA from the 30th September.

So take extra care when packing your bikes up and be prepared to put extras into your other baggage.
