It may only be February - but that doesn’t mean that we can’t plan what we’re up to in the Autumn! Something rather special in fact… Once the lifts close for the summer here in Morzine we’re certainly not going to be hanging up our helmets. We’re heading south where the sun is still shining and the leaves can cling onto their branches for a little while longer… We have plans. Big plans. So let me tell you a bit about them:
Right - first off - these are preliminary plans and are therefore subject to change - but the basic idea isn’t changing. We will let you know as soon as the plans are concrete and we have prices and can start taking bookings for the trips. Sign up to our newsletter to make sure you’re the first to know more!
So what are these plans - where are we going? And are you coming with us?
The broad plan is to travel from Morzine down to Morocco. Taking nearly three months from Mid September through to the end of November. We’re doing this because we want to ride in new places, new countries and new cultures. And we want to take you with us. We will be hooking up with Guides that know the routes we don’t - so you can be assured that you’re in good hands.
So where are we going to ride:
Well - first off we’re driving south down to a town (ominously) called Die (pronounced ‘Dee’). From there we will get on our bikes and ride the Chemins du Soleil track to Gap - the gateway to the Alps (if you’re heading north that is!). The 200km route will take us from the Rhone-Alps region of France into the Provence-Alps-Cote-d’Azur region. The route will take 5-6 days of riding, it will contain almost 10,000m of climbing (and descending of course!). All the way we’ll have vehicle support should the climbing get a little too much for some. We will arrange all food and lodgings - keeping things nice and friendly - choosing owner run Gites and Hotels with their own restaurants to make sure we’re properly fed for the trip. There is a race that runs along this course that takes place in May - take a look here - there is an English version - link at the top of the home page. It’s a three day trans-alps/trans-rockys/trans-wales type event (which I’m hoping to go and do - well someone has to research the route!) I’ve put the route up on our routemap thingamajig - select one of the three Chemin du Soleil routes form the drop down under the map.
After that epic ride, we will be heading further south into Provence to ride some amazing trails down there, there’s some Moab style slickrock riding to be done and then the big Roc d’Azur MTB event once we reach the sea. I shall give more of an insight into what to expect for that week in my next post.
Following that we’re heading to Spain - Catalonia to be precise (although they wouldn’t say it’s in Spain!) for some Pyrenees to Barcelona action. Then from there its to the Sierra Nevada and then onto the Ferry to Africa and Morocco. If all that sounds tempting, then do get in touch and let us know!
We hope to have the full program up online properly in the next few weeks - in the mean time I will be posting news on our planning on this blog.
Until next time!
Guy
